If you're simply buying a weight plate set to introduce variety in your home workout, a set of regular bars, collars and plates should be enough. Regular weight lifting sets are less stable than Olympic ones but more affordable and less technical — making them more suitable for beginners. If you already have a bar and are looking at buying more barbell plates, make sure the one you have is not an Olympic one as regular weight plates have a 1-inch hole that would be too small.
